bee imaginative

My first official finish of 2013, I was about half way through quilting it before we moved, so it was a quick finish and a quick finish=FUN!
this is my last quilting bee quilt in my queue (phew!--so nice to have them put together instead of just a pile of blocks) and it is one of my favorites!  I loved each and every block, and all together, it's WOW!    You can see my inspiration pic in this post.

I was way into rainbows at the time this quilt was started, and I still love them, but I am so in love with the two tone greys in this quilt.  I think they make the colors pop.
I'm still not sure if this rainbow stripe is right for this quilt, I really wanted a grey on grey stripe for the binding, but grey is a tricky color and nothing really matched.  I even considered making my own striped fabric, but knew it would be too bulky.  In the end I went with rainbow, but I wish I could've made the grey work.
backing, colorful zigzags and leftover grey.

Thanks to all my friends who made a block.  It's perfect.

  1. I love the two tone greys. I agree with the binding but there is only so much you could do. Of course there is always designing the perfect fabric on <a href="http://www.spoonflower.com>Spoonflower</a>.

I love how the grey tempers all that colour so it isn't overwhelming. It's just right.

  10. i think the rainbow binding makes the quilt! It was what really caught my attention. What fabric did you use?

  11. I've used that same fabric on a binding too. I had the same reaction. And it was silly, in my case, because the quilt was a rainbow of colours and had white in it. It still doesn't sit 100% right with me, but there it is. The colours are just so saturated in it.

  13. Very inspiring! I never would have thought to team rainbows and greys but now I feel I really have to! Love it! And the binding truly works. I don't think a grey binding would have had nearly the same impact.
