peaks

This quilt reminds me of the mountains.  We moved to Texas about 6 months ago, from Colorado, and boy do we miss the mountains.  I guess we just have to vacation to them...
I pulled navy blues and grassy greens for this quilt and just cut away.  I am so happy with this color palette.  It's so pleasing to my eye.  I love green and love blue.
I'm not sure why this photo is blurry.  It's perfectly clear until I crop it (just a little bit), and then it goes blurry.  I'm using Iphoto, and have googled the problem and it seems many others have the same problem, but I can't find a solution.  It's just annoying.  I'll try to get a better picture tomorrow.
I'm not sure how or why mustaches are kind of "in" right now, but I saw this fabric at Hobby Lobby, and thought it would be fun on the back of this quilt.  My kids think it's hilarious, and since this quilt is for a baby, I think it's perfect.
I'm listing this one in my etsy shop...I can't keep every quilt I make, even though I'd like to.  :)

  4. Love the quilt. Love the backing. Do think it's hilarious!
I'm sure you miss the mountains, but right now there is so much smoke so many places along the Rockies, that they can't be seen anyway. I'm sure your memories are nicer than the current reality.

  5. Gorgeous quilt - I love that colour combo too! I absolutely adore the backing fabric - it's been on my to buy list for a while but has never actually got to the buying stage! I use iPhoto too, and I have problems with my pictures appearing blurry sometimes. Usually I just zoom into the picture and then zoom out and that helps somehow (sounds crazy I know)!

  7. I like the greens and navy together! I've been picking up navy fabrics lately and wondering what other colors I will pair them with. The mustaches are cute too! Thanks for the inspiration!

  11. The backing is such a fun surprise! So cute.

I think mustaches became popular as photo props for wedding guests where they held up mustaches on sticks. Then it spread all over as a fun motif.

  18. I would love to make this for a new grand daughter. I'm not an advanced quilter. Is this hard and where would I get the pattern?

  20. Hi Krista,

I didn't use a pattern and I would say a beginner could do it, especially if you have experience with a sewing machine. The difficult part is that the edges on the triangles are all on the bias, so they can easily stretch. I used a triangle ruler, which I think made it easier. This is the ruler I used: http://www.amazon.com/Fons-and-Porter-Pyramid-Ruler/dp/B001UAH1II/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1341856480&sr=8-2&keywords=fons+and+porter+ruler
