vanilla ice cream

I have been in love with Rita's low volume quilts for years, and lately  I've seen others all over blogland, so I decided to give it a go--and settled on the churn dash block.
I admit, I go back and forth on this quilt.  Sometimes I LOVE it!  Like, really love it! and other times I think it was kind of silly to do such a 'vanilla' color pallet.  Even as I just typed that, I thought to myself, that the monotony is what I really like about it, even with all that light, there is soooo much variety to it all.
I did throw in a few bold churn dashes, just to mix it up a bit, and I like them.

Since the top reminded me a bit of vanilla ice cream, I used this fun ice cream print on the back.
and bound it in a pretty mint stripe.
my kids love this quilt and call it the ice cream quilt.
I'm excited to visit these low volume prints again.

  1. Nettie I think it is perfect! I would totally make one but I have hardly any white background aka low volume fabric. It is fun to have something different!

  7. I love it! I've also been loving all of Rita's low volume quilts, and hope to make one of my own someday (once I collect more of those prints!). I think those few brighter blocks are a great addition!

  15. Nettie-The Ice Cream Quilt. What a perfect name for this quilt, considering you use a "dasher" when making homemade ice cream. That's what I call serendipity!

  26. I love it~ so pretty and reminds me of an old-fashioned quilt. I love how you quilted it. I can see how you quilted it around the borders of the squares but can't tell where else you stitched. Can you share?

i really like your work, but especially this one! i've been looking for the perfect project for my own low volume fabrics and might steal your idea of a churn dash quilt.
