little red doll quilt

i confess i am not in love with this doll quilt, but my daughter tells me she LOVES it--so it's a success. i wanted something quick to work on, and settled on a doll quilt.

i used many of my little red ridinghood prints and was liking it okay, until i tried out a new quilting method (pebbles, first seen here). i think the pebble quilting is totally wrong for this quilt, and probably the reason i am not happy with it. the good news is i discovered that pebble quilting takes forever, and i probably won't try it again (maybe on a small quilt), but i do like the way it looks.

  4. I don't think there is a "wrong way" to do the quilting. I think the quilt will grow to like it (that's what I keep telling myself!)

  5. I think it's very cute! I've been hesitant to do pebble quilting just because it's time-consuming and requires a zillion yards of thread... one fine day I shall attempt it though!

  9. Sometimes that happens, you aren't so happy with it, but others love it. I like it and am glad that your daughter loves. Sometimes you just have to try new things.

  17. Hmm, I have to agree with you on the pebble quilting on this one. As long as the recipient is in love with it then all is good in the world. Hope the pregnancy continues to go well.

  18. The last quilt I have completed I used pebble FMQ. At first I really did not like it, but it took a while to fall in love with it. Can't say much if the quilt pattern suits pebbling since I myself just getting use to it.

  19. Well; I'm in love:-)

I agree that pebbles take for ever; but they add such a lovely texture to a quilt, just like they do to your.

I find them hard to combine with other kinds of quilting though, they tend to shrink the quilted area much more than other quilting. I just had to steam press a quilt to make it flat again after adding pebbles to an already finished quilt.
