stash

amandajean (and others) asked for a pic of my fabric stash, and since I love seeing fabric stashes, I am happy to show you mine. Generally I don't purchase more than 1 yard of each print (unless it's a really good deal!), lately I like to get fat quarters and half-yards. This gives me more variety.

I really don't have a HUGE stash, it's just the minimalist in me that feels I need to go on a fabric diet. I have a "use what you've got" mentality for most things...the problem is I haven't been doing that with my fabric.

I like to feel justified in purchasing new fabric...lately I feel guilty because I have plenty that I should be using.

I mostly arrange my stash by color (with some exceptions--the top shelf in the top pic is kits I sell in my shop)...I keep my solids separate

I am dying to make a red and aqua quilt, so I have a stack of fabrics set aside for that.

and last but not least, my stash of japanese imports. I use these A LOT in my etsy shop, so I keep them separate from my other stacks, but I really want to start incorporating them into more quilts...they are adorable.

  1. Cute fabrics. What are the poka dot fabrics for? They look like kits but I don't see them listed. Just above the japanese imports to the left.

  21. You have no idea how happy it makes me to see a well-organized COLOR COORDINATED fabric stash! How awesome are you? I wish I had shelves instead of bins so that I could stack my fabric according to color and just smile whenever I see it. I guess I'll just have to live vicariously through this picture though!

  22. I love your stash! Not too big to get lost in, but plenty to play with :) I usually buy per project - no room for a stash

  24. I used to sew lots and lots of clothing, having sewn my whole life--but rarely bought more fabric than what I intended to use for a dress or two or three!! I quilted years ago before rotary cutters and rulers. I never even knew what a stash was before I got back into quilting about 9 years ago. Then I started working at a Quilt Shop (almost 3 yrs ago) and I got the "sickness" as some call it!!
Talk about a "collection" as I prefer to call it (i'm an avid collector of many things, afterall). I have to remind myself each day I go to work (3 days/wk) "don't buy any fabric today! Use what you have!!"I have been needing to reorganize and your post inspires me that much more to get to it. (My problem is I just hate to take time away from sewing!)

  26. Beautiful stuff, I'm definitely jealous. I love all of your quilts, and especially the ones with a lot of white. I'm wondering what you use for your solid white? I've been looking at a bunch of different stuff but you never know what you're going to get. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks!

  27. I found your blog over at Freda's Hive and I must say it's delightful. I go through periods of stash organization and I go through periods of stash ... flinging. I am currently in the midst of the later period, so it was nice to soak in some organizational vibes.

  33. I saw your stuff on Etsy and love your colors. I just started selling kits there too, and it looks like we're birds of a feather. Check out my blog at sadiebird.blogspot.com. I rent my long arm to other quilters too. Also if Ike hit you in TX, you might want to see my friend Erica's quilting blog, she lives in Houston. polkadotquilts.blogspot.com. She's part of my quilt exchange group, even though she deserted us for her native Texas.
