baby pow wow

my sister had a baby several weeks ago (a new nephew for me) and I finally got his quilt mailed, so I can show it off here.
I used Allison's, of Cluck Cluck Sew, Pow Wow pattern, and it was awesome, easy to follow and came together perfectly.
I used some of my low volume scraps for the background and I like how it turned out.  I kinda vacillate between loving it and thinking it's too busy.  But I love using what I have, and I have a TON of design-on-light fabrics that just need to be used!
When I made this quilt, my sister was pregnant with this baby and immediately told me she wanted to have his name on the back.  I love how personal it makes the quilt.
I quilted it in a spiral, which (I have to remind myself) seems like it will be really easy, but is in fact a LOT of shifting fabric, around and around.  Especially in the beginning.  I do love the result though.  I thought it looked like a target to go with the arrows.
I bound it (again) in a grey stripe.

  1. It looks wonderful. I love your binding. I have this pattern but it lost somewhere is sewing area/basement. I hope to find it because I have a baby quilt to make and you have given me the idea to use it for the baby quilt.

  15. That is one great quilt! I love the arrows, and you are right, the spiraø quilting was really worth the effort, it goes so well with the rest. I love all the different fabrics you have used as well - there will be lots of things to explore for the little guy when he starts noticing the world around him!

  16. I understand your feelings: I like many blocks and some blocks seem to blend with the background. Also some background pieces catch the attention. That's why it makes you feel that it's busy I suppose. But nevertheless it's a wonderful quilt that I would love to have here. And I got really inspired seeing this pattern this way 'though my pow-wow quilt will have one background. But maybe for other projects. Thanks for showing.

  20. I love this! Your choice for background fabrics is so great! I don't think it's too busy at all. It has a super modern look but is still really fun and playful for a baby. I think a lot of modern baby quilts (mine most definitely included) appeal more to the parents' aesthetics than the child's. This is a great blend of the two!
