far far away

I'm on a roll finishing up quilts that have been so close to being done for a very long time, and it feels so good.
I started this quilt a long time ago and really didn't like it much...I guess I kinda wished I'd used the fabric in a different way.  That's the main reason it took me so long to finish.

Plus, the quilt is pretty big, and main fabrics are linen/cotton blend and it's heavy.  I was really dreading the quilting process.

But it all turned out in the end.  I really like it now, and quilting it wasn't too bad.
I used this fun zigzag print on the back and decided to use those zigzags as my quilting guide.
I didn't do a great job, I'm going to call it organic as opposed to sloppy--if it weren't for that dark purple print you wouldn't even be able to tell.
I'm mildly opposed to white binding, but it just worked so well for this quilt.  I had to use it.  I think it really frames it well.

Wow, it's great! I get it with the heavy thing, but you seem to have made a picture/story out of it, which is what I like. And the white binding- never would have thought of that, but perfect with the sashing. Well done!

Pardon me, but I love this quilt! I got that feeling in my chest of utter jealousy that it isn't one of my creations! Gorgeous, seriously, and it shows off all that adorable FFA2 prints perfectly.

Just how big is it anyway?

I agree with that white binding.

I think the backing is what totally makes this quilt! Very clever.

I'm impressed that you are disciplined enough to tackle the "undone" stack. Perfect or not, it's a FINISH and any finished quilt has merit!

I actually love the fabrics but I hear you that heavy quilts are hard to work with.

I love your quilt! The quilting is fun and the white binding looks great! Did you use a walking foot or free motion for your zig zags? Great job!

I just love this. I have a stack of far far away and was wondering how to use it. I think I am going to do this. Where did you get your zig zag fabric for the back?

I LOVE this quilt, and I really LOVE that zig zag fabric... if I found it I think I'd buy ten yards because I love it so much!

I've done white binding once too, when the quilt insisted. It does look exactly right here!

I LOVE the thin white sashing... the first thing I thought when I saw it was "stained glass window". It's just beautiful.

i love the weight of your quilts, especially when I see them folded up, what do you use for batting?

super cute! i know what you mean about wishing you'd have used your fabric a different way. that's super disappointing. but it really is super cute!

Oh, you HAD to use white binding on that. No other choice. And I use the term organic when I really mean too lazy to mark.

Good call on the binding -- sometimes our quilts speak to us, don't they.
Hmm, quilting from the back is a new concept to me.

Nettie! this is beautiful! I love the border size. I'll have to make one with my Heather Ross. Lovely idea. Thanks for sharing.

I just made a quilt top out of the same fabrics. Same issue. I am not crazy about the overall look of mine and like the way yours has been put together. Mine is also going to be very heavy. I will not use linen for the backing and a lighter wadding but I have put it away for the moment until I can like it a bit more. Well done on the finish.

This quilt is so dreamy! The white binding was a good call, as was the quilting ... just perfect.

The white binding does look great. This is a beautiful quilt! I just did some "organic" type quilting on my last project, and it was really liberating to just go for it. Not to mention fast...

LOVE it! I've been using wide white sashing in the Christmas quilts that I've been making over the past month but I am loving how the more narrow sashing in your quilt looks! I'm getting an itch to sew... too bad I'm at work. ;)
