spiderweb

I finally gave in and decided to jump on the bandwagon and make one of these spiderweb quilts. I am using the tutorial found here...although I'm being a little lazy and only using three strips and I decided to forego the paper-piecing. This will be a baby quilt, not very big--which is good, I lose interest in quilts fast, and this one is somewhat labor intensive.

  1. Wow, this is amazing! Everytime you write a new post it is a delight to my eyes! I'd very happy if you had a look at my blog. It's entirely written in Portuguese, but I'm planning on going international soon.
    Love from Brazil,

  5. I have been wanting to make one too but it is so labor intensive. I had not thought of doing a baby quilt that would be more manageable. Love your so far.

  9. I like the idea of no paper and three strips. I started a string quilt and quickly got bored after the blocks took forever and then there's the paper to take off! No fun!

  10. Love the colors! And totally agree about forgoing the paper piecing. It certainly has its place sometimes, but man, I hate pulling off all that paper. This is totally cute!

  11. It's beautiful! I admire your dedication. I made a single one for a quilting bee block and was amazed at the time and amount of fabric it takes.

  12. It's gorgeous - and good plan too! I have a few blocks just sitting there abandoned since it really is a lot of work!

  18. You are so smart! Simplifying it with only 3 strips makes it much more "maker friendly". Nice job!

  19. Love those spiderweb quilts. I wish I was better at it. I really love the colors around the white star thingie.

  20. I too like the little quilts so that I don't lose interest before I finish it. I think that looks super labor intensive. I have to have super fun colors, combos, and incentives to finish!

  21. I am saving the spiderweb for my quilting bee as I know it would take me an age to finish off an entire quilt! These look great!

  22. THANK YOU for posting the link to the tutorial! I have been wanting to make a few of these squares for a wall hanging, but I haven't been able to find a pattern or anything... so thank you!

and yours are looking beautiful, btw!

  23. Nice color combo. I would forget paper piecing too. A baby quilt is a great way to try a new technique.

  27. I was so glad to hear "Somewhat labor intensive" That is all I need to keep me off of this bandwagon!

  28. It's going to look great. I found a tutorial for a kaleidescope quilt that is similar that I am piecing together bit by bit with scraps. I love scrappy quilts!

  36. completely inspiring! I can see this as a family quilt...take pieces of each members clothing & quilt them together like a family is...intertwined & connected! A true family heirloom/treasure. =)

  37. Love your spiderweb blocks!!

The red and aqua fabric combo is one of my favourite color schemes. Am looking forward to seeing the finished quilt.

  39. I have to admit that I wanted to do this quilt as well and tried to do it without the paper piecing. But just couldn't do the math. Would you mind sharing how you do it with the paperpiecing?

  40. I'm so intimidated by the time investment in the spiderweb quilt. You'll have to let us know if it is that bad. Yours is beautiful so far!

  44. First, No Doubt's song "Spiderwebs" hopped in my mind, then I literally shouted "whoa!" This quilt design is new to me, like many are, but even if I look at this everyday, I doubt it will lose its appeal to me. Great job so far. Please post the picture when you finish it!

  45. This is STUNNING! Love the color combos!

  46. Marvelous work of it you are doing! The colors and patterns are so pretty.

  47. That is one of my favorite color combinations -- a lot of emotional resonance for me. I've been too daunted to start a spiderweb quilt, so I can definitely understand your hesitance! Anyway -- gorgeous.

  48. I love the spiderwebs pattern. What a beautiful quilt it will be. I posted about you and some other quilting inspirations on my blog today. If you get a moment, stop by and say hi.

    Take care,

  49. That looks like a TON of work! I love you fabric choices.

  50. Nettie, the spider web quilt is going to be fab! I just love Bonnie's quilts and you have done one better by making it easier. I know what you mean about not buying fabric, but some of it is so tempting! My mom and I have been organizing my stash and we've both come to the conclusion that I just have too much (LOL!). Not that I bought it all - I inherited quite a bit from 4 friends. They gave me bagfuls to start my stash. And now I'd like to do the same. So if you'd like a piece, visit my blog as I will be posting some give aways for whoever wants them.

So enjoyed your baby quilts - just finishing two of my own.
    best wishes,
