turns out

I might actually enjoy applique and hexagons.   I held off for as long as I could, but I just couldn't resist how cute these little hexagons are.  I don't know that I will ever make a quilt with them, but they are so fun to add to projects.

These hexagons made their way to a bib.

Now that my baby is 8(!) months and eating solid food, I'm finding that our bibs from the older kids are pretty much worn out.  I made couple of these several months ago as an easy quick project.  I just think they are adorable, so I whipped up a few more for the babe and a few for my shop

and I always love a stack of quilts, so of course I love a stack of bibs...it's like a bib sandwich.

pattern can be found here.

update

once upon a time, i had a hustling, bustling etsy shop...then we moved and i got pregnant, and i just don't have time to spend with it.  i've updated my shop, i'm cleaning out my supplies, what you see is what you get. Items include hair clips, ponytail holders, and headbands, they make great gifts!

twin scrappy log cabin

finally, i am finished with this quilt. i don't think i have ever been so ready to be done with a quilt. this was a slow one for me.

it measures approximately 74x90 inches (twin size), and i know i definitely prefer baby and lap size quilts. i might be done with larger quilts for a while, they are just not as fun for me. i guess i like quick fast results.

backing is apples and pears in blue.

i did a pieced binding because i just couldn't decide whether to use blue, green or yellow.

another coin quilt

This one is a special order through my etsy shop. I just love coin quilts.

Lots of white, and lots of scraps...
i really like the backing...

My only goal for this year is to finish all my quilts that are currently 'in progress' before I start any new ones (unless it's a custom order or for a new baby). I am currently working on this one.

I just rememered another goal...I really need to use my stash. Lately there has been too much coming in (fabric) and too little going out (quilts).

stacked coins

I almost forgot to post this quilt finished. I can't think of a creative name, so stacked coins it is. Plus it's already out the door to it's new owner...

As I mentioned in a previous post, I used Denyse Schmidt, Heather Ross, and Wee Play (american jane) fabrics...they all came together nicely to give it a vintage-y, flea market-y look. I just LOVE it, and am hoping to make another quilt with these fabrcis for my etsy shop.this is the back...I used a Heather Ross dot, with a strip of scraps running through it.

I haven't been doing much quilting this week. I guess I needed a break...I'm also trying to go on a fabric diet. I really need to not buy fabric for a long while.

zig zag quilt kit tutorial

(This tutorial is for a kit available in my etsy shop . inspired by this quilt.)

Your kit should include 120 five inch square blocks, backing fabric, and binding fabric.  I have now produced 5 different zigzag kits, one of the above images.  Each quilt combines different fabrics, but the method is same for all!

This quilt is made up entirely of half square triangle blocks, arranged into a zigzag pattern.

EAch 5 inch square will be paired up with another 5 inch square...the pair will become 2 identical half square triangles.  Each row is made up of 5 pairs, which will become 10 half square triangles.  You will have 12 rows.

Check your kit to be sure you have all the squares, once you have them all, separate them into pairs:  Amounts and pairs are listed below.  Again, you will need 5 pairs for each fabric combo.

Country life zigzag

Wee wander zigzag

Out to sea zigzag II

Mendocino zigzag

Instructions for ALL kits (regardless of fabric) are as follows...
take your first pair:

place right sides together
using a pencil (or fabric pen), draw a line from one corner to the opposite corner.stitch 1/4 inch away on each side of the pencil line. (I use a 1/4 inch foot, if you don't have one, draw a line 1/4 inch from pencil line on either side, and stitch on both lines.)
repeat on other side of pencil line
Your pencil line should now be sandwiched between two stitched lines, 1/4 in away on each side.
using scissors or rotary cutter, cut along pencil line.
you should be left with 2 pieces
press seams toward darker fabric
you now have 2 half square triangle blocks! Repeat this process until all your blocks are complete (120 total).  I like to trim my blocks to 4.5 inches, but if you feel confident that they are square, trimming isn't necessary.

As you complete your blocks, you can start lying them out to make a zigzag.
once you have all your blocks (10x12) laid out in order (follow the list of pairs above), begin assembling the quilt top.

Using quarter inch seams, first sew each block in a row together, forming a long strip.
you will have 12 strips with of 10 half square triangles.
Next sew the long strips together until your quilt top is complete.

Now you are ready to "quilt" your quilt. :). There are several options, take it to a local quilt shop and have them quilt it for you, or you can do it yourself.

if you choose to quilt your quilt yourself, see my stripes baby quilt kit instructions for tips on basting your quilt and quilting your quilt.

finished quilt measures approximately: 40in X 48in.
